How to tell the difference between the Ego and the Soul
AM I OPERATING FROM MY EGO OR FROM MY SOUL?
Self-reflection is an important spiritual practice. Asking this question as part of that self-reflection practice can really help you to understand where you are in your spiritual journey, and where the work is.
Working with the Akashic Records is all about getting into, and living in alignment with, your soul. The Akashic Records offer a ‘zoomed out’ objective, soul-level perspective on your life. By understanding your current lifetime from the perspective of the Akashic Records, you are able to take a step back and understand your ‘self’ (ego) and your Self (soul) better.
WHY IS IT IMPORTANT TO KNOW?
Human life can be challenging. Earth is a tough school, one in which the opportunities for the evolution and growth of the soul are endless. However, we can sometimes become overidentified with the ego in this density so stepping back and looking at the driving force behind your current behaviours and actions can be helpful. It can help you stop repetitive, mechanical behaviours and move towards expansion. This ensures that you are embracing the opportunities that the incarnation is offering your soul for its evolution.
THERE ARE NO QUICK FIXES ON THE SPIRITUAL JOURNEY
It should be acknowledged here that as a species, we humans love a quick fix. If there is a potential short cut to take, we will try it. On the spiritual journey, there are no quick fixes. A modality like the Akashic Records are not here to tell you what to do. In fact, the Akashic Records guides are very careful to select the information delivered to you so that it does not impede your ability to utilise your free will. They will guide, assist and help you release energetic stagnation, but they will not instruct.
Spiritual development and the evolution of the soul can be challenging, especially in the current density of reality. Modalities are available to assist but it is essential that you take radical self-responsibility for your journey. If you are not ready to take radical self-responsibility, that is completely fine. But there is no tool, modality or practice out there that is going to do the work for you.
THE PRACTICE
During your spiritual practice and throughout your daily life, become observant of yourself. Ask yourself ‘Am I operating from my soul? or Am I operating from my ego?’ Feel into what feels expansive (and therefore in alignment with your soul) and what feels contractive (in alignment to the ego).
This take patience and practice, and I have listed some ways to help you discern below.
EGO VERSUS SOUL
The soul embraces the challenging nature of Earth and understands that in every situation there is a lesson and potential for evolution. In comparison, the ego thinks everything should be easy and difficulties shouldn’t happen.
The soul is patient; the ego is always in a rush (especially where spiritual development is concerned).
The soul is content with going through the necessary stages of spiritual evolution. The ego wants quick fixes or to skip steps/bypass.
The soul knows that you are perfectly imperfect as you are. You are an individualised fractal of Source Consciousness that has chosen to come into this density to experience it. The ego wants to point out every ‘flaw’ you have, criticise you and point out how unworthy you are.
-The soul leads you towards embracing self-love and self-acceptance. The ego wants you to fix yourself and seek perfection in some (usually unrealistic) goal/standard.
The soul’s focus is on the energy of abundance whilst the ego’s focus is on the energy of lack.
The soul wants authentic expression and prioritises that over what other people think. The ego is concerned with how it is perceived by others and fears being judged or disliked.
The ego will shapeshift depending upon the people it is around or the situation it is in. The soul focusses on living in alignment to its values, being truthful and authentic
The soul focusses on the internal relationship. The ego looks for something outside of itself to feel ok about itself.
The ego wants to serve itself only. The soul wants to serve others.
The ego focusses on the illusion or separation, whereas the soul knows that separation is illusion and that ultimately, we are all one.
The soul doesn’t mind making mistakes as it is all just a part of the learning process. The ego does not like taking chances or making mistakes.
The soul enjoys the whole journey whereas the ego is always striving towards the end result.
The soul focuses on the now. The ego constantly ruminates over the past or projects into the future.
The soul is internally focussed. The ego is externally focussed.
The time that we live in is not about completely eradicating the ego. We need the ego to function in physical reality. Our time is about spiritualising the ego, moving the ego from position of master to servant in our lives. Taking more direction from our soul and living in a more soul-aligned way.
How can we do that?
HOW TO GET INTO ALIGNMENT WITH YOUR SOUL
Spiritual practices are all designed to help you turn this focus inwards and connect more deeply to your soul. Some specific practices that I have found helpful for myself and in my 1:1 work with clients to shift from ego-dominance to soul-dominance are:
Working with your Akashic Records. The helps you to attune to the frequency of your soul and to start receiving the objective, soul-level perspective the Akashic Records has to offer.
A gratitude practice. Taking some time each morning and each evening to write down everything you are grateful for and really feeling the energy of gratitude as you do so.
A presence practice. Set an alarm on your phone for every 2/3 hours with a reminder to sit in the now. When it goes off, just shift your focus into the present moment. Observe the thoughts that are arising and the emotions that you feel and just allow them to be.
An end of the day reflection practice. Do a short review of the day, reflecting upon what has taken place, what emotions have arisen, how your interactions with others have been and see if you can reflect upon what the lesson for the day was. This is to take position of the observer, not to spend the evening berating yourself about something that happened.
IN SUMMARY
Human life is a fascinating opportunity for the soul to experience limitation and material reality. To navigate through this we need our ego’s help. What we don’t need, is the ego to think it is charge, or for you to think that you are the ego. You are not. You are an individualised fractal of Source Consciousness having this experience.
